Like a few others on here, I'm trying to find positives and have come up with these:
I thought Byram did reasonably well and hopefully has done enough to at least suggest that he could be first choice rb this season.
Antonio had an absolute shocker but if this has done something to make Slav reconsider his policy of playing him as rb, at least something positive will have come out of it.
Nordveidt was a bit unconvincing as a cb but showed that he has a good range of passing. Looking forward to seeing him as a dm and bringing the ball out of defense, launching attacks etc.
Feghouli looked terrific at times - very tricky on the ball, though some of his close passing was a bit suspect and he faded in the 2nd half, but I would mainly put that down to the lack of cohesion of the whole team. I have no doubt he will be a star this season.

Second half was terrible. We couldn't get out of our own half or keep the ball for more than a few moments at a time.

i think its highligts a couple of things,
The fact that we still Struggle to even get into the group stages of a competion that many dont even take serious.shows that the Squad isstill lightweight.
The fact That Slaven does not seem to trust the Kids like Burke or Oxford and would rather play players out of position.
i didnt watch it but listened on the Radiio and we sounded Shocking, all over the place at times.

(just to add) the amount of times Antonio was nowhere to be seen and the rest of the defence was all out of shape was really poor. That's just basic discipline and positional sense. Nordveidt might be a better player than Burke but he's not a defender.
If anyone, they could have dropped Kouyate back to defence because at least he's played there successfully for us.

Definitely the strongest on paper. But I'm not convinced it might have been smarter to have had a recognised CB (Burke) at CB, for instance. You want players playing in their best position.
They certainly should have changed things round long before they did, when they saw how it was going.
Admittedly Antonio had a stinker by his own good standards, but I think we didn't show their left winger enough respect and got punished for it.

Nordtveit range of passing impressive
obviously a shaky start at centre half but too early to panic, think he looks very promising

I'm not too worried by our lack of signings.
We're in that tricky position where we're trying to improve from 7th to break into the top 4. To do that, you need top drawer players. Top drawer players want Champions League, so we'll have to be patient waiting for players who don't get that. We signed young players with potential early on, and did that well, and I'm actually quite pleased we haven't bought players just for the sake of it.

Sullivan said when Byram joined that his fee will come out of this summers budget.
Lanzini was signed up permanently for a fee.
Martinez had a transfer fee, Feghouli i'd imagine got some mental signing on fee like Ayew did for Swansea last summer, Harvard too I'd have though, Tore cost a loan fee of £3m
We've put in more than £3m for sure.

I reckon SLAV has the bunce but is going to choose the players he wants wisely rather than rushing in and filling the squad with players who are available immediately.

By the way, we've spent about 3 million on signings so far.

I don't like 3 defensive midfielders.
Especially against these teams.
Would prefer a bloke who can play a little further forward and get hold of the ball in their final third.
